THE ICELANDIC SHEEPDOG

The Icelandic Sheepdog is a charismatic, ancient breed hailing from Iceland, known for its endearing personality and versatile skills. These medium-sized dogs are renowned for their intelligence, loyalty, and herding abilities, making them wonderful companions for families and a perfect fit for those who appreciate a breed with a rich history.

QUALITIES

Icies have weatherproof double coats, double dewclaws, expressive prick ears, and the classic Spitz curled tail. They also sport a heart-melting Icie smile.

Temperament: Cheerful, friendly, inquisitive, playful, confident—all with a strong work ethic. Icies are alert, ready to give newcomers an enthusiastic welcome without being aggressive. They love everyone: people, children, and other dogs. Icies love to be with their people and don’t particularly enjoy being alone for long stretches of time. Say goodbye to your days of private bathroom time: once an Icie joins your life, you’ll never be alone again.

Size: Roughly 25-30 lbs and 18 in (male) or 16.6 in (female).

Shedding: Moderate shedders, Icies will blow their coats twice a year. We’re not saying you need to buy a brand new vacuum… but it couldn’t hurt!

Activities

They’re ready to adventure! Take them on a hike through the woods or over snow. Or if you’re at home, they might enjoy a good fetch or training session. Icies have a strong work ethic and love to use their brain e.g. learning tricks, doing nosework.

At Home

Icies are wonderful dogs in the home, especially with appropriate activity and training. They can match your lifestyle. They’ll jog a few miles with you or they’ll laze about if you want to relax for the day.
